Botox works by blocking the acetylcholine receptors on the muscle side of the junction.

Without acetylcholine, nerve impulses are stopped; muscle contraction decreases and therefore smooth out the appearance of wrinkles. We use botox on the forehead, the frown lines, crow’s feet, and perioral lines and for the chin area (depressor anguli oris and mentalis). Therapeutically botox can be used to decrease gummy smiles and to relieve the symptoms of grinding and clenching (masseter).
